There are people who have a great niche, a great plan, and a great idea for what they are going to offer their members on their membership website, but they just can't seem to hold their members like other sites do. What is it that they are doing wrong? Why is it that people don't want to stay there?
If it's not the product and it's not the ideas that the website owner has that is keeping people away, chances are that it's the website itself. Let's look at the things that a website has that turn people off.
Pop Up Advertisements..One of the biggest turnoffs for people when it comes to websites is pop up advertisements. They are annoying, they disrupt what you are trying to do, and they are hard to close down once they are on your screen. Yes, they draw attention to your website but they draw negative attention to your website. If you have pop up advertisements on your website and you aren't getting a lot of members, that could be why.
Difficulty Navigating..Another turnoff for people when it comes to a website is a website which is hard to navigate. The person feels like a mouse in a maze, not knowing which way to turn to go where they want to go. Again, if you have a lot of visitors but not a lot of paid memberships, check your website and see how easy or difficult it is to navigate.
Video
Again, this may seem like something that is a good idea at the time, but instead of forcing people to watch a video, give them the option to watch the video. It may be that they are doing something else and they are just surfing the Internet while they do it. But instead of having the video talk as soon as they click onto the webpage, give them the chance to choose to watch it. It may just increase your visitor to member ratio.
These are just a few of the things that really can turn a prospective member off of becoming a paid member on your website. Think about the things that annoy you when it comes to membership websites, and keep from doing that on your own membership website. Chances are that you will see an increase in the amount of memberships you get.
