Donts of Membership Websites

When people are creating a membership website, sometimes they are using garish means to attract the attention of visitors without thinking about the possible repercussions. They don't think about the fact that these things can negatively impact the way that people view their website and business.

Here are some of the things that you should not do when creating a membership website.

Don't Force an Action

Something that people will often resent a website for is forcing them to perform an action. A lot of people hate it when they open a website and right away are hit with a video. Even if the information is good, the person might resent the website owner for not respecting them enough to let them make their own choices. Put videos on your website, but allow people to watch them when they want to instead of making them listen and watch it, even if it's for a short time.

Don't Use Flashing Pictures..Again, this is something that website owners know is going to attract attention, but depending on who the person is, they are not going to appreciate it. There are people whose health is affected negatively due to flashing pictures and strobe lights, so refrain from using them.

Don't Use Capital Letters and Exclamation Points Excessively

Most everyone knows that using capital letters and exclamation points means that you are shouting at someone. It's a good attention getter, yes, but excess use of them can make people upset. If they are used in good taste and properly, you will find that capitalization and exclamation points can be a good marketing strategy. If they are used in error, they are going to make people annoyed.

These are just a few of the things that you should not do when you are creating a membership website. It's important to remember that the first time someone visits your website they are getting their first and most important impression of you and your business. So make that first impression a good one by taking into consideration the visitors feelings and needs.

When you are creating a membership website, remember that you are selling yourself and your business as soon as that person lands on your website. If the sales pitch isn't good, the person isn't going to stay much less become a paying member.
